Day of Arafah – 9th Day of Dhul Hijjah

The Day of Arafah is one of the most sacred days in the Islamic calendar, observed on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, the day before Eid al-Adha. It is the pinnacle of Hajj, when millions of pilgrims gather at the Plains of Arafah, seeking Allah’s mercy, forgiveness, and blessings.

On this day, pilgrims stand in wuqūf (standing before Allah) from midday to sunset, praying and supplicating earnestly. This momentous act symbolizes the essence of Hajj and is a reflection of the Day of Judgment, when all believers will stand before their Lord.

For those not performing Hajj, fasting on Arafah is highly recommended, as it is said to expiate the sins of the previous year and the coming year (as mentioned in authentic hadiths). It is also a day of immense supplication, seeking forgiveness, and drawing closer to Allah.

Arafah is a reminder of the mercy of Allah, as it was on this day that He perfected Islam:

“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as your religion.” (Qur’an 5:3)

This sacred day serves as a time for deep reflection, repentance, and spiritual renewal, whether one is on the pilgrimage or observing from afar.
